About the Office of Civil Rights & Community Support
The Office of Civil Rights & Community Support (CRCS) is here to help. We work with students, faculty, and staff to foster a campus where everyone can learn, work, and thrive free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
We understand that reaching out to our office can feel intimidating—maybe you’re not sure if what you experienced “counts,” or you’re worried about what happens next. That’s okay. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you contact us. We’re here to listen, answer questions, talk through your options, and connect you with resources and support—whether or not you decide to move forward with a formal process.

What We Do
The Office of Civil Rights & Community Support (CRCS) responds to reports of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct involving students, faculty, staff, and third parties. We work to ensure everyone has equal access to Smith’s programs and activities.
If you reach out to us, we’ll start with a conversation. We’ll explain your options, offer supportive measures (like academic accommodations, housing changes, or mutual no contact orders), connect you with resources, and answer your questions.
We also work to prevent discrimination and harassment before they happen. This includes training for the community, reviewing policies, and consulting with departments on difficult situations.
Not sure if we’re the right office? Reach out anyway, and we’ll help you find the right path, even if that means pointing you elsewhere.
