For Students

Hello, Smithies! You’re here to learn, explore, find your voice and discover your best self. And we’re here to help. Make the most of your college experience by getting the resources and support you need. We’ve got you covered.

150 Years of Memories

To help us celebrate the college’s 150th anniversary, send us a love story to Smith! It can be about a favorite place on campus, an influential professor or staff member, an enduring memory or friendship—something that captures the essence of what makes Smith special. We’ll post responses online and possibly use some of the stories in an upcoming issue of the Smith Quarterly.

Mark Your Calendars

It’s no secret that we all have busy lives, but it’s important to schedule in some fun and connection, too. Check out these ongoing chances to come together as a community throughout the month.

First Tuesdays

Next Event: February 4

Sponsored by the Office of the President, join your colleagues and peers in the Julia McWilliams Child ’34 Campus Center on the first Tuesday of every month from 8:30–9:30 a.m. for coffee, donuts, and a chance to catch up on happenings around the campus.

Second Thursdays

Next Event: February 13

Second Thursdays is another chance to make connections. Take 15 minutes to come together as a community to dance, do deep breathing, tai chi, or even play Simon Says with President Sarah. Each event takes place on Chapin lawn from 8:45–9 a.m.

Major Initiatives

Financial Resources for You

From money for textbooks to medical bills, the Smith Students’ Aid Society (SSAS) provides assistants to Smith College students with grants and emergency funds. While not all requests can be approved, we encourage you to reach out if you need help.

Also consider these other on-campus resources.

Student Financial Services

Have questions about your financial aid package, making a payment, or how to finance your Smith education? Student Financial Services can help you sort out these questions and more.

Common Goods

The one-stop (free) shop for everyday necessities that Smithies may need. If you need a new winter jacket, toiletries, laundry supplies, or more, visit us. Stop by the student-run hub in the Campus Center or order online.

Emergency Grants

In certain circumstances, emergency funding is available to students from the Dean of the College. Apply for help with purchasing textbooks, airfare, medical care, and more.

Two-Stop Shopping

The Smith Computer Store, located in Stoddard Hall 202, has everything imaginable for your electronics needs—from new MacBooks and iPads to the smallest cables and adapters, we’ve got you covered. If it’s Smith-branded clothing or accessories (or just some on-campus staples!) you’re after, stop by the bookstore at 8–10 Green Street. At either location, a valid Smith ID will get students, faculty, and staff members various discounts.
