PsychologyToday
  • PsychologyToday lists a range of private practice providers throughout the country.  You can do a search based on your local area.  You can also do a broader search within the state where you are located and look for therapists that provide telehealth. If you are based in Northampton, or want your search to include all of Massachusetts, click on the links.
  • Feel free to play with the filters to look based on your insurance, identity markers that are important to you, clinical speciality, and different geographic areas.
  • Each therapist will not be able to accept all insurances and some may be cash-based.
  • Some may be full to new clients, however you can email each one directly right through their profile on this one website.
Finding a Therapist Through Your Insurance
  • If you have the insurance provided by the college (BCBS), you can use the Gallagher Student app to help find providers.
  • If you have another insurance, go to your insurance company’s website and search for “behavioral health provider”
Finding a Psychiatric Provider

Either contact one of the clinics listed below, or search for psychiatrists in Northampton or Springfield.

Helpful Tips
  • Your PCP may be able to review many mental health medications. Reach out to them first to see if they can fill your prescriptions.
  • Make an appointment early to make sure you don’t run out of your medications. It’s important not to wait until you are almost out!
  • Students are responsible for all costs not covered by insurance. Students may apply for funding assistance to cover the cost of medical expenses, but only after exploring in-network options with insurance.
Options for Students with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Student Health Insurance Plan
  • Telehealth: Students who have the Blue Cross Blue Shield student health insurance plan are eligible for telehealth services for mental health medications with a $0 copay (all other services have a $25 copay)
  • Find a Doctor: Click “Find a Doctor” on the Gallagher Student webpage to find local in-network providers.
Options for Students with Private Insurance (some may work for BCBS SHIP):
  • Zocdoc: Find providers that work with your insurance plan. Enter speciality (psychiatry), zip code, and insurance information to find local in-network providers.
  • Talkiatry: Works with 100+ insurances. See their Insurance Checker to see if services will be covered by your insurance.
  • Brightside: Contracts with Aetna, Allegiance Benefit Plan Management, Allied Benefit Systems, Ambetter, Surest, Cigna, Meritain Health, Medicare, Oxford Health Plans, Northwest Administrators, UMR, United Healthcare, UMPC. Private pay options available (for non-controlled substances).
  • PsychologyToday: Enter your zip code and filter by insurance. Make sure the provider is in-network to avoid extra charges. Note whether they indicate they are accepting new patients.
  • Call your insurance company’s member services (often located on the back of your insurance card). Many insurance companies have behavioral health advocates and other representatives who can assist you and share a tailored list of local providers.

Night Nurse Phone Triage

Call 413-585-2800 (option 1) to be connected with the answering service

  • Phone nurse triage services are a convenient and reliable way for college students to get medical advice without leaving campus or waiting for a clinic appointment. These services are especially helpful for students living away from home who may be unsure when to seek medical help. It’s a fast, confidential, and supportive way to take care of your health and make informed decisions.

  • By calling a dedicated nurse line, students can speak with a registered nurse who will ask about their symptoms and help figure out the best next steps, whether that’s managing the issue at home, going to urgent care or going to the Emergency Room

Virtual Urgent Care/Primary Care

  • Students with the BCBS Student Health Insurance Plan can access Virtual Urgent Care 24/7 through WellConnection.

  • Students with private insurance should reach out to their insurance company or log in to their insurance policy account to see if virtual urgent care is available.

  • Mental health visits require an appointment and have a $0 copay/out of pocket cost.

  • Students can download the Blue Cross Blue Shield Well Connection App or visit Wellconnection.com. (login required).
