The Sophia Smith Leadership Society is an annual donor recognition program. Membership is based on the total of an individual's personal gifts and corporate matching gifts during a single fiscal year.

Donors of $1,875 or more will receive periodic updates and special invitations throughout the year.

The 1875 Sophia Smith Society Match
You can double your impact for Smith with a new matching opportunity.
The college opened its doors in 1875. To honor and sustain this tremendous legacy, anonymous donors have pledged up to $1.875 million in matching funds to inspire increased giving from leadership-level supporters.
Your donation will be matched when you increase the amount of your giving from the previous year in support of a current-use fund. These critical funds give Smith the strength to meet emerging needs and the flexibility to create new opportunities for learning and action.
You’re eligible if your total giving between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 fits three criteria:
Your donation meets the Sophia Smith Leadership Society threshold of $1,875.
Your gift exceeds your overall giving from the previous fiscal year (July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025).
You are donating to a current-use designation.
We are tallying giving totals by fiscal year: July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025 is “the previous year,” and July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026 is “this year.”

The most common current-use donation is to The Smith Fund (General), the designation that enables the college to direct resources where they’re needed most.

Yes, it will!
You’ll receive a note in the mail from the college informing you that your gift has been matched.
Yes! If your total giving will meet the three criteria by the end of the fiscal year on June 30, 2026, it will be matched.
Employer-matched funds will be counted toward this match’s qualifying criteria, provided the college has received those funds.
Only the amount of your own donation will be counted toward your class gift. But Smith will receive the matching amount from our anonymous sponsor, thanks to your support!
You can give online at smith.edu/1875match or call 800-241-2056, option 1. You can also mail your donation to Smith College Gift Accounting, 33 Elm Street, Northampton, MA 01063. Checks should be made out to Smith College, and your class year and current-use designation (or simply “Smith Fund”) should be added to the memo field.
